Car Over Bridge Route 53 Down to Woodfield Rd Below, Schaumburg

VIDEO: Blue Honda Civic driven off bridge northbound I-290/IL-53 onto Woodfield Road in Schaumburg.

Schaumburg police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:05 AM Saturday September 22, 2018 to a report of a crash with car rolled off the I-290/IL-53 bridge at 42.042979, -88.030448 (Route 53 Sb and Woodfield Rd Schaumburg ). Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a crash with injuries and possible entrapment after a car rolled off the I-290/IL-53 bridge over Woodfield Road.

The first crew on arrival reported the driver was out walking around vehicle. The male driver was the only person in the blue Honda Civic, which was positioned on the guardrail on the north side of Woodfield Road under I-290/IL-53.

The male driver was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center for evaluation because of the high forces involved in the crash.

The driver’s blue Honda Civic was resting with its rear on the guardrail, and the car was facing southbound at the north curb of Woodfield Road — perpendicular to Woodfield Road. However, it is possible that the car was northbound on I-290/IL-53 when it went over the bridge. There were scuff marks or impact marks in the eastbound lanes of Woodfield Road. Apparently, the car hit the ground in the eastbound lanes of Woodfield Road and flipped 180 degrees airborne and came to rest facing southbound near the westbound curb of Woodfield Road.

Illinois State Police are investigating.

The Schaumburg Police Department announced today they will be conducting a Search and Rescue Unit training exercise, and mock missing person scenario in the area of the Schaumburg Boomer’s Stadium and METRA Commuter parking lots, 1999/2000 South Springinsguth Road. The exercise will take place on Saturday, November, 17, 2018, between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
This is a TRAINING EXERCISE ONLY, during which members of the unit will simulate a search for a missing subject.

Created in 2017, the Schaumburg Police Department Search and Rescue Unit is made up of approximately twenty part time auxiliary supervisors and officers as well as full time Community Service Officers. When needed, this unit will supplement efforts already being handled by those officers. The greater the field of trained personnel the department has engaged in the search, the more likely subjects will be located quickly, reunited with family, or provided necessary medical and/or social services assistance.

Man Found Dead in Secluded Tent in Woods on Mitchell Blvd Just North of Route 390, Schaumburg

Death investigation for body found in a tent in thick woods on Mitchell Boulevard, Schaumburg.

Schaumburg police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:16 PM Wednesday April 3, 2019 to a report of a man found dead in a tent in a wooded area just south of a warehouse at 1365 Mitchell Boulevard Schaumburg, IL. Police on arrival discovered more than one tent in a secluded area of woods with thick brush. Schaumburg police had firefighter/paramedics stage outside the woods while they checked other tents to make sure there were no threats or additional victims in the other tents.

There was no threat in the area, and the victim was confirmed deceased. There was apparently incorrect information spreading near the scene that the victim was found with a knife in his back. A man said the person or persons that found the victim, saw a knife in the victim’s back, but police said that is not true, and that initially they did not find any signs of foul play associated with the death.

The body was transported away by a white Chevy van about 3:10 p.m., and was likely transported to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office in Chicago.

It was initially unknown if this was a small group of tents that homeless people used, but the tents were barely visible from the edge of the woods

UPDATE: Schaumburg police report that the call is under investigation as a possible domestic violence case, and was NOT a Strong Arm Robbery. Arlington Cardinal initially incorrectly categorized the call as a Strong Arm Robbery.

Schaumburg Police: Guest Says People in Hotel Room Fired a Gun, But He Fired the Gun in Hotel on American Ln Near National Pkwy

Schaumburg police responded about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2019 to the Extended Stay Hotel at 1200 American Lane to investigate a noise complaint. Police officers approached the room that was identified as the source of the complaint and discovered that a firearm had been discharged. A guest from that room exited the hotel room and indicated to police that other subjects were still in the room, and had discharged a firearm. Police responded to the comment as a possible barricaded subject or subjects inside the hotel room.

Police evacuated guests from the hotel, and requested the assistance of the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) Emergency Services Team (EST) to investigate the possibility of the armed barricaded subjects, as a precaution. The room was checked, but no other subjects were found inside the room.

The subject from that room was identified as Zachary Woelfel — a male/white, age 29, of the block of 300 Thorncliff Drive, Glendale Heights, IL. Officers from the Special Operations Division located a handgun, spent shell casings, and 91 grams of cocaine. Woelfel was transported to the Schaumburg Police Department for further investigation.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office reviewed the case and authorized the following charges:

Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 2 Felony)

Possession of a Defaced Firearm (Class 3 Felony)

Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4 Felony)

Delivery of Cocaine (Class X Felony)

Possession of Cocaine (Class 1 Felony)

Woelfel will be transported to the 3rd District Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows for a bond hearing.

“This case is an excellent example of the Schaumburg Police Department and other law enforcement agencies working cooperatively to remove a dangerous felon from our community”, said Schaumburg Police Chief Bill Wolf.

Schaumburg Police stated: “Members of the public are reminded that this arrest and complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”
